Our Mission
Provide a living history representation of the various railroads which operated in western
Montana from the 1860’s to the present, through the building and operation of a model railroad
layout (the Last Chance Layout) that reflects the railroads important contribution to the regions
communities and industries that were and are served by these all-important means of
transportation, and
Provide long-term storage and display of relevant railroad memorabilia (including model
railroading), and
Provide educational opportunities for area youth, tourists, and the public at large, and
Tap the talent present in the area and preserve the history related to railroads and model
railroading, and
Provide economic growth opportunities to Helena by becoming a destination attraction and/or
waypoint for visitors to Montana
